![]() ![]() The deepest metaphors in a culture aren’t recognized as metaphors at all.Metaphor often obscures certain points and forces logical jumps – “argument is war” may blind us to cooperative possibilities. Some subtle examples that influence our language and thinking – control is up, time is a moving object, mind is a machine. Some examples of power metaphors in the English language Argument is War Time is Money.Metaphors play an enormously important role in our conceptualization of the world around us, so much so that we are often blind to it – language –> thought process, influences what we do and perceive. We have found that such principles are often metaphoric in nature and involve understanding one kind of experience in terms of another kind of experience – this suggests that understanding takes place in terms of entire domains of experience and not in terms of isolated concepts The general principles involve whole systems of concepts rather than individual words or individual concepts. ![]() We view language as providing data that can lead to general principles of understanding.

I haven’t been able to get this book out of my mind for the last two weeks. It reminds me of a book I read to my girls when they were little. The harder we try, the more challenges we continue to face. But let’s face it, our surge capacity is fried. We talk a lot about surge capacity…that innate ability to rally enough hope and energy to make it through difficult circumstances. ![]() These last 18 months have been THE MOST challenging of my 20+ year career and that’s saying something because I once used myself as a body shield to break up a fight between two girls (much taller than I am) in a lunchroom in Little Rock in 2010. Can we talk about the elephant in the room for a minute? I know you’re all feeling it as heavily as I am. ![]() 6/26/2023 0 Comments Fostering faust book 3![]() ![]() His armies are expertly trained and almost over- equipped.
